Vacancy: Country Accountant at Wasoko Tanzania Opportunity.

In Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, and Uganda, thousands of retailers utilize Wasoko’s mobile ordering and delivery platform to efficiently and affordably receive the goods they require. Simultaneously, they gain access to growth financing for the first time. Position: Country Accountant

We are in search of an exceptional Country Accountant responsible for all aspects of financial management for Wasoko at the country level. This includes financial reporting, managing local tax compliance, and overseeing countrywide audits.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct and review ledger & sub-ledger reconciliations for all balance sheet items.
  2. Perform and review inventory and tax reconciliations.
  3. Carry out and review reconciliations for bank & cash balances, debtors, suppliers, inventory, and control accounts.
  4. Generate a fixed asset register and fixed asset movement schedule in alignment with the General Ledger.
  5. Produce aged open balance listings for all items in the balance sheet.
  6. Compile a list of all proposed reconciling journals.
  7. Conduct financial record audits to ensure compliance with IFRS and legal regulations.
  8. Ensure adherence to IFRS in all accounting procedures.
  9. Aid in establishing financial controls, including end-of-day and end-of-month procedures, to ensure data integrity and assist in regular reconciliations.
  10. Analyze financial data and identify discrepancies.
  11. Review financial documents to spot inaccuracies.
  12. Oversee the review of reconciliations and tasks performed by bookkeepers.

Requirements:

The successful candidate should possess:

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in retail, at a company with an annual turnover exceeding $100,000 USD or at a leading regional or international accounting firm.
  • Prior work experience across East African markets is preferred.
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration; preference for ACCA, CPA, or MBA.
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in accounting and administration software, preferably Quickbooks.
  • Collaborative team player with integrity, eager to work in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.
  • Fluency in English (both oral and written) and the ability to communicate effectively within a business setting.
