Tembo Nickel Hiring NGO Specialist – Dar Es Salaam Office

Tembo Nickel is in search of an experienced community development professional to analyze the community service needs and actions outlined in the livelihood restoration plan. The specialist will assess the required Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and service delivery needs, formulating a plan to facilitate the implementation of the Livelihood Restoration Program (LRP) and lay the groundwork for ongoing social and economic development.

Vacancy: NGO Specialist at Tembo Nickel – Dar Es Salaam Office

The role reports directly to the Social Performance Advisor and is accountable for meeting agreed-upon key performance indicators (KPIs). These KPIs will be regularly reviewed with both Tembo Nickel Management and the Community and Resettlement Lead.

Duty Station: Dar es Salaam

Responsibilities

The NGO specialist will be responsible for:

  1. Assessing and maintaining a database of local, national, international, and multilateral organizations operating in Tanzania, particularly in the Ngara District. This includes core services and values, locations, and capabilities to expand service delivery or community development opportunities.
  2. Reviewing government funding availability and requirements, including international donors (bilateral, multilateral foundations, and large private donors).
  3. Collaborating with the Livelihood Specialist to understand required government and NGO services for LRP implementation.
  4. Developing an NGO/Services development plan to attract NGOs and government services to the region, facilitating Tembo Nickel’s LRP implementation and ongoing community development.
  5. Including a perspective on accessing government/private funding to complement Tembo Nickel’s community development efforts.
  6. Staying informed on relevant laws and regulations affecting NGOs.
  7. Engaging across teams to integrate plans requiring NGO and/or government services, aligning them with the NGO/Services development plan.
  8. Working closely with the Stakeholder Engagement Team to inform/develop an NGO Engagement Strategy within the broader Stakeholder Engagement Strategy.
  9. Creating a gap analysis and capacity building matrix (where applicable) for identified NGOs/Services to support successful community development delivery.
  10. Engaging with Tembo management to ensure visibility of critical risks and opportunities for the NGO/Services development plan.
  11. Collaborating with Tembo management to ensure visibility of any required investment for success.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Extensive knowledge of Tanzanian not-for-profit and development sectors.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess the needs of remote communities and identify approaches for sustainable community development.
  • Experience in strategic thinking and developing plans to operationalize strategy.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili.
  • Availability to travel to the site at least 25% of the time.
