About the Position:

We are actively seeking a skilled Advisor – HRBP to join our team at the Dar-es-Salam offices in Tanzania, contributing to the EMA HR team that supports the Africa South business portfolio.

As an Advisor – HRBP, you will engage in a dynamic role collaborating with the Africa South HR BP, furnishing comprehensive services, guidance, and support on labor relations matters to line managers and the broader HR team.

The primary objective of the Advisor – HRBP is to offer proactive, value-added advice and support related to employment law, people policies, and HR practices to leaders and managers across Africa. This includes the effective implementation of initiatives, ensuring favorable outcomes for the business.

The Advisor – HRBP reports directly to the Head – HR EMEA and serves as a supportive function to HRBPs across various African sites. Travel to remote sites within our African operations will be required as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Africa South HR BP to ensure effective services, advice, and support on labor relations matters, implementing appropriate disciplinary and incapacity procedures.
  • Assist HRBPs in consultation processes with trade unions and third parties.
  • Maintain and provide accurate employee relations (ER) statistics and information, preparing reports as necessary.
  • Stay updated on relevant industrial relations (IR) legislation and events, advising management on IR legislative compliance.
  • Assist in the creation or amendment of ER policies and procedures.
  • Support the business in managing disputes, attending to employee relation matters, including arbitrations and collective disputes.
  • Establish and maintain relationships between trade unions and management across all African operations.
  • Enhance ER capability through formal training initiatives across Africa, ensuring line managers are well-equipped to manage employee relations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in HR/ER/Law or related field.
  • 4-6 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of labor legislation and the development and implementation of policies.
  • Experience working with at least one, preferably two or more labor laws in Africa.
  • Experience in building and maintaining collaborative relationships with trade unions and hiring managers in a complex and global environment.
  • Effective communication skills to influence a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and personal effectiveness under pressure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to present strategic logic and recommended pathways.
  • Ability to travel and support internal stakeholders based across the Africa region where Orica operates.
  • Fluency in English; Swahili and other languages considered advantageous.
