After Tanzania Mainland departed the East African Examinations Council in 1971 and before NECTA was formally established by legislation in 1973.

Tanzania Mainland’s resignation from the East African Exams Council (EAEC) in April 1971 gave rise to the establishment of NECTA, which was created so that Tanzania Mainland could conduct its exams.
