Global Resource Alliance – Tanzania (GRA-Tz) is an international non-profit association headquartered in Musoma, Tanzania. It is affiliated with the US non-profit, Global Resource Alliance (GRA).  GRA-Tz promotes natural, holistic and sustainable solutions to the challenges of poverty, malnutrition, disease and environmental degradation in the Mara Region of Tanzania.

The forest restoration project is focusing on nurturing back forest on the hillsides of Mwikoro, Kigori, Nyanza and Busegwe villages in Butiama District and increasing the tree components in the wider landscape. The total area of intervention is 1,921 ha of hillsides for the first 4 years of which 1,475 ha falls within the boundaries of the Mwikoro, Kigori, Nyanza and Busegwe villages. Forest restoration will be achieved by assisted natural regeneration and the introduction of woodlots and agroforestry systems to improve the livelihoods of the local population. The program will also involve the creation of community forests on the hillsides with a legal status and improve the water catchment to help restore dried up water springs.

GRA -Tz implements the project through the management of tree nurseries, agroforestry, project coordination, community forest management of the hillsides and monitoring. WeForest is the main donor for the project and provides guidance and technical support on project interventions. GRA-Tz wishes to invite applications from proactive, hard-working and committed individuals to fill the following position.

  • JOB TITLE: Monitoring And Evaluation Coordinator
  • Duty Station: Butiama
  • Reports to: Project Manager
  • Contract period: 1 Year renewable upon successful performance
  • M&E Specific Responsibilities

The role of the M&E Coordinator will be to

Designs project M&E system, guidelines and tools for efficient data collection and analysis; and assist staff in understating M&E guidelines and procedures. Conduct a thorough revision of the M&E framework and log frame for improvements to all tools and processes within the M&E system. Facilitates efficient data collection, analysis and reporting using statistical applications to generate strategic information and make recommendations to the project management team. Conduct quantitative and qualitative biophysical and socio-economic surveys with beneficiaries and potential beneficiary communities

Ensure routine monitoring and evaluation of project indicators and Provide regular detailed progress reports to the GRA-TZ director, GRA-USA and We Forest. Supports strategic partners in preparation of the M&E budget, developing work plans and sound M&E systems. Assist project manager in other tasks as needed (developing grant applications, ensure clear, efficient and timely communication and reporting in respect to the programmatic, administrative and financial needs of the project, record received data and maintain updates database, compile project reports conceptualize learnings).

Terms & Conditions

Contract type Renewable contract initially for 1 (one) year Position Full-time contract, based in Butiama or Musoma Hours of Work: Full-time, working a minimum of 8 hours per day. Hours will however vary depending on project needs and flexibility is essential. Reporting line M&E Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Project Manager and report to her and the GRA-TZ Country Director. Qualifications and other requirements Education A Master degree, or equivalent experience, in Natural Resources Management, Forestry, Ecology, Bio-engineering, Quantitative/Qualitative Research Methods, Statistics, Remote sensing or other relevant field

Experience

A minimum of 3 years’ M&E experience working in relevant sector with smallholder farmers in Tanzania Experience in developing logical frameworks (log frames), work plans, clear indicators, milestones and targets Experience with biophysical data collection (e.g. forest structure & vegetation assessments) and socio-economic data collection (e.g. household surveys) Experience with digital data collections tools (e.g. Kobo Collect, GIS Cloud) Computer literate and proficient in use of Windows Office (especially Excel,Word & Powerpoint) Experience in handling and manipulating spatial data & GIS software (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS)

Experience with designing data collection campaigns (sampling design, sample size, protocol/ survey development) Experience with dataset cleaning & quality control Experience with data processing (analysis, producing graphs & reports) Demonstrable skills in coordinating, training, reporting and communicating Experience with (statistical) data analysis methods and software (e.g. SPSS, R) is a plus Language requirements Fluent in English and Swahili (both speaking and writing).

This position involves working with a wide range of people within the institution, local communities, local and international partners, including technical and nontechnical colleagues. Other requirement In possession of a driving license, experience with driving motorbikes and other vehicles is considered a plus Flexible in terms of traveling and living conditions
