Job Title: Branch Managers (Dar Es Salaam & Mbeya)

Reports To: Country Sales Manager

Purpose of the Job:

The role is responsible for providing world-class financial solutions to our customers, with a view of earning the best returns for the shareholders

Key Accountabilities:

  • Participate in the definition of the branch objectives, ensuring that they are known and understood by him/her and the branch staff.
  • To organize prospecting and communication actions in the branch’s intervention area (markets and commercial areas) by assigning tasks and targets to Relationship Officers in order to achieve objectives and targets on time (qualitative and quantitative results on both the deposit and lending sides).
  • To identify clients’ needs and propose new products/services to the company’s management (field trips, regular meetings with Business staff) while also maintaining ongoing market intelligence efforts with a focus on competition.
  • To develop the overall branch portfolio in accordance with management’s quantitative and qualitative aims.
  • To ensure that loan applications and loan assessments are completed according to the company’s standards (cf. rules, processes, and guidelines), with special reference to the completeness of documentation (both for paperwork and for data processing in the Management Information System – Mis).
  • Chair loan committee meetings to make loan decisions (approved conditional approval, loan feature modifications, refusal). If the job of loan committee chairperson is delegated to a supervisor, ensure that decisions are reviewed on a regular basis to check compliance with policies, processes, and guidelines (including environmental and social policy), and take corrective action as needed.
  • To monitor the loan portfolio and ensure timely repayments by using ad hoc reports, as well as to arrange and track the outcomes of recovery activities in the event of late repayments.
  • To guarantee that deposit goods and services are marketed in branches and out in the field, and that quantitative and qualitative results are met on schedule.
  • To ensure that the client registration process and account opening process are run in conformity with rules, processes, and guidelines (both paper work and data processing in the Mis), with special emphasis to Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti Money Laundering Policy.
  • To guarantee regular inspections of cash flows on deposit accounts for AMI reasons, and to report to the (Compliance Officer).
  • To ensure that the branch always has sufficient liquidities to support smooth transaction processing (for example, withdrawals on deposits and loan amounts), while remaining below the maximum permissible amount.
  • To guarantee that such liquidity level is not excessive in light of planned inflows and outflows, operate deposits with partner bank(s) to limit exposure to robberies and maximize return on liquidities.
  • To ensure that the branch cash is safe at all times, and that all cash handling processes and policies are followed correctly.
  • To ensure that the daily client cash transactions at the teller counter are performed in line with the cash management procedures (e.g., management of in- and out-flows between tellers, between teller’s tills and the main vault), and that clients’ cash deposits and withdrawals are handled by tellers in line with the said procedures.
  • Perform daily checks of the cash in hand at the tellers’ level and the main vault level.
  • Document any surplus or lack of funds and refer it to the operations department as needed.
  • To plan the overall branch activities (or apply the standard plan as established by management), i.e. scheduling loan committee meetings, weekly meetings with branch staff, specific meetings with such or such type of staff or individuals according to needs, mandatory cash controls, level of improvised field visit to ensure, data processing for reports, training on innovations or refreshment on existing topics, etc. (and to ensure a strict follow-up of such schedules)
  • Participate in regular management meetings held at the headquarters level.

Thinking Requirements and Working Complexity:

  • Ability to accomplish objectives (quantitative and qualitative) set by Financial Inclusion
  • Ability to represent Letshego Foidiko Bank in the intervention area by exhibiting professionalism and dynamism, and to establish a valuable knowledge of his/her intervention region, gaining respect and confidence from clients.
  • Ability to communicate coherently with clients, supervisory staff, and management at the head office level, both orally and in writing.
  • Staff’s ability to adopt and implement official rules, procedures, and guidelines
  • Ability to predict, recognize, and analyze difficulties that may impede the development of the branch.
  • Ability to assure regular and transparent reporting to higher-level management, as well as to propose new initiatives for overall business development.

Knowledge and Experience Required of Job Holder

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in banking, finance, accounting, marketing, business administration, and sociology.
  • Diploma in banking, finance, accounting, marketing, business administration, and sociology.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Branch Manager in the bonking business or commercial institution.
