Internship UN-Habitat 2023

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the UN agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The Urban Economy Branch of UN-Habitat has the mandate to promote local capabilities of local governments to develop financial instruments to keep pace with the demands of rapid urbanization. The Urban Economy Branch has the mandate to promote plans and provide support for more efficient, socially inclusive, better integrated and connected cities that foster sustainable urban development.

1.Intern – Climate Change, I

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the intern will: Support the development of climate vulnerability assessments and diagnosis for projects developed in the Urban Lab in Mexico and Nairobi. Support the analysis of green and blue infrastructure, the assessment of ecosystem services provision and the development of nature-based solutions in urban areas for climate adaptation and mitigation. Conduct research linked to climate change, urban regeneration,

Sustainable housing, energy efficiency, circular economy, and urban planning, and support the preparation of participatory workshops, trainings and presentations. Support the elaboration of concept notes and project proposals, for vertical climate funds (AF, GCF, GEF, etc.) in particular, as well as normative and technical documents related to urban planning and climate change adaptation and mitigation’s Assist in the development of climate-related plans, solutions, strategies, recommendations, actions and projects to support UN-Habitat interventions at national and local level, in alignment with international frameworks, such as the Paris Agreement, the New Urban Agenda and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

2.Intern – Communication & Advocacy, I

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Under the direct supervision of the Human Settlements Officer, SDG Localization and Local government, UPB, the intern will: support the engagement of UN-Habitat’s SDG Localization Team in major events by preparing events’ background material, including concept notes and agendas. Assist with the identification of speakers, coordination of invitations and mobilization of partners and participants in sessions, workshops, and other events. Revise knowledge products,

Collaborate with team members to develop and maintain the communication and social media strategy to promote the work of the SDG Localization and Local Governments team. Assist with the creation and dissemination of content and materials to promote events, projects, and other activities (social media posts, infographics, multi-media assets, emails, reports, letters, flyers, messaging) under the work of the work of the SDG Localization and Local Governments team. 3.Intern – Data & Methodology, I

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Under the direct supervision of the Human Settlements Officer, SDG Localization and Local government, UPB, the intern will: Participate in the collection, computation, analysis, and alignment of Sustainable Development Goal Indicators, New Urban Agenda Indicators, Global Urban Monitoring Framework indicators, and other urban indicators. Assist the planning, drafting and review of Voluntary Local Reviews and SDG City Development Strategies supported by UN-Habitat. 4.Intern – Project Support, I

Support to the implementation of global projects on SDG localization and Voluntary Local Reviews, including UNDA Tranche 14 and 2030 Agenda sub-fund projects. Support the development and implementation of bilateral cooperation projects with cities and local and regional governments and decentralized cooperation actors. Facilitate tracking progress on project implementation and develop briefings and reports. Identification of content for dissemination and communication materials.
