SECTION 2

Organizational Context and Scope

Operating under the overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO) and reporting directly to the Migration Health Nurse Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for the duties and responsibilities outlined below in relation to the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Makere, Tanzania.

SECTION 3

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Conduct daily nursing activities in the Migration Health Assessment Clinic (MHAC) to meet the technical requirements of the resettlement countries, covering areas such as:

a) Medical examinations,

Including checking vital signs, weight, height, visual acuity; Collection of blood, urine, or sputum as required; Imaging; Laboratory testing; Vaccinations; TB management; Treatment and referrals; Pre-departure procedures and medical movements; Documentation, certification, and information transmission; and, Other technical areas as required.

  • Provide migrants and/or refugees with comprehensive information and explanations regarding:
  • The migration health assessment process; and, Treatments and referrals.
  • Ensure proper identification and follow-up by:
  • Conducting comprehensive history-taking; Accurately and thoroughly collecting Biodata; Verifying ID for each step of the health assessment process; and, Maintaining a register of applicants undergoing health investigations and testing.
  • Adhere to and implement the Health Assessment Programmes checklists and SOPs while maintaining standard universal precautions within MHAC.
  • Ensure the proper transportation of samples of sputum, blood, or others to the laboratory or previously designated location.
  • Monitor and oversee the MHAC pharmacy, stock, medical kits, and emergency kits within the MHAC and for medical escorts if applicable.
  • Provide pre and/or post counseling to migrants or refugees on TB or HIV education, prevention, and management as appropriate.
  • Prepare administrative reports and program updates as necessary.
  • Support the planning and execution of mobile missions if applicable.
  • Assist with pre-departure documents, briefings, and preparations as necessary.
  • Undertake medical escort duties when required to ensure migrants receive continued care throughout all phases of migration (before departure, during the journey, and at the final destination).
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with various partners to facilitate follow-up and relevant information sharing. Partners include internal IOM departments, other health providers, panel physicians, embassies, other UN agencies or NGOs, and others as applicable.
  • Collect statistical information and share it with the Senior Migration Health Nurse or CMHO as per the preset and agreed-upon format.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

SECTION 4

Required Qualifications and Experience

EDUCATION

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with a minimum of three years of relevant clinical experience
  • OR possess a Diploma in Nursing with a minimum of five years of relevant clinical experience
  • Hold a valid license to practice nursing in the United Republic of Tanzania.

EXPERIENCE

  • Possess excellent technical skills, including phlebotomy.
  • Have training or working experience in areas such as Tuberculosis management, mass immunizations, communicable diseases, laboratory testing, or public health (an advantage).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in clinical nursing.
  • Possess excellent bedside manner.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles of preventive care and disease control.
  • Have knowledge and experience in implementing patient safety and infection prevention and control.
  • Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access).

SKILLS

  • Organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

SECTION 5

  • Languages

REQUIRED

Fluency in both English and Kiswahili (oral and written).

DESIRABLE

Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
