Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) stands as Tanzania’s primary gold producer, operating in the Geita Region. As a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, a global gold producer headquartered in South Africa, GGML operates in over ten countries across four continents. The mining site is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, approximately 85 km from Mwanza City and 20 km southeast of Lake Victoria’s nearest point. GGML’s main office is located in Geita, only 5 km west of the rapidly growing town of Geita, with a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. Purpose of the role

The Supervisor – Underground Mining is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring the safety and productivity of shift employees and equipment in the underground mine. The role involves training employees to perform their duties safely and competently.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of Secondary School Education.
• A formal qualification (Diploma/Certificate) in Mining Engineering is an added advantage.
• Valid Tanzanian Driving License.
• Valid Blasting Certificate.

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of working experience in the underground mining industry.
• Relevant underground experience.
• Experience working at a mechanized mine.
• Proven record of managing and leading large and diverse teams.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Ensure safe mining operations and report safety issues to the senior supervisor – underground mining.
• Oversee duty of care to all employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
• Ensure understanding and acceptance of responsibility for safety by each employee.
• Comply with incident management protocol as per GGM Procedure.
• Plan daily production and development for the mine to meet production KPIs.
• Manage, control, and supervise daily working areas of the mine.
• Organize work rosters or internal crew transfers and conduct shift line-up and safety meetings.
• Control costs, coordinate with contractors, and uphold GGM policy on discipline.
• Conduct performance reviews and address non-conformance issues.
• Ensure workplace inspections are completed, and hazards are rectified.
• Conduct daily inspections of all underground working areas.
• Encourage participation in toolbox and safety meetings and maintain high standards of housekeeping.
• Determine manpower needs and direct qualified replacements.
• Conduct daily inspections of all underground infrastructure.
• Stop any work that cannot be done safely or may have negative impacts on the environment.
• Initiate disciplinary action per GGM disciplinary procedure.
• Review shift roster and identify training needs for underground employees.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Manual vehicle driving skills.
• Operation of underground machines with minimum skills as Service Crew operator.
• Explosives usage and management.
• Work Risk Assessment processes.
• Read and understand work plans/Mining Instruction.
• Ability to achieve production and cost objectives.
• Working knowledge of underground mining and haulage.
• Fluent in English (oral and written).
• Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diversified workforce.
• Ability to handle work-related conflicts.
• Computer knowledge – MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
