There are three schools run by the Aga Khan Education Services, Tanzania (AKES, T), ranging from elementary to secondary education. Every school strives to offer a high-quality education that fosters independent inquiry and critical thinking skills by imparting a broad range of intellectual and human qualities. The Aga Khan schools in Tanzania have its roots in the 19th century, when Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah Aga Khan III established a girls’ school in Zanzibar sometime around 1905. The primary goal of AKES in Tanzania is to put into practice educational initiatives that help pupils gain the intellectual underpinnings and life skills necessary to navigate an increasingly globalized and technologically advanced society. To meet the needs of diverse communities, AKES in Tanzania operates schools which run both National -NECTA and International curricula International Baccalaureate -IB and IGCSE International General Certificate of Secondary Education.

For the position below, which is headquartered in the Tanzanian Central Office in Dar es Salaam, AKES, T is hiring competent applicants.

Safety and Security Officer jobs (SSO) at Aga Khan Education Services

In addition to providing safety, security, and risk management services and strategies, the Safety and Security Officer (SSO) will oversee all safety and security services for the Aga Khan Schools in Dar es Salaam. On any issue pertaining to safety and security for AKES, Tanzanian schools, the SSO will also serve as an advisor to the Senior Management Team and school safety and security committees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and control security and safety threats proactively in all schools
  • Serve as the main point of contact for planning and handling security and safety incidents.
  • Examine the physical infrastructure for threats to safety and security, then suggest countermeasures.
  • Create and oversee corrective action plans in addition to conducting audits of the schools.
  • Create and carry out the strategic safety and security plans for the company.
  • Build strong bonds with law enforcement and other relevant parties.
  • Gain and keep a solid contextual awareness of every aspect of the business.
  • Develop, oversee, and evaluate the private security service’s performance at the school.
  • Look into and fix security issues at the schools.

Position Requirement Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in security studies or security risk management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety and security management at a similar level.
  • Certification by ASIS International as a Certified Protection Professional or equivalent
  • Should be certified in facility security management and incident management
  • Possess professional maturity, sensitivity to different cultures, and impeccable integrity that exemplify AKES/ AKS’s values
  • Experience in school risk management environment.
